When we were presented with the idea of selling cutting boards specifically for our Smoked Salmon line, the first thing we asked is can the material we use be eco-friendly and come from sustainable sources.
Well, we got it right. Our cutting boards are made from pará rubber wood trees, aka malaysian oak. Rubber wood trees yield latex for the rubber industry. After 25-30 years these trees no longer produce latex so they are cut down and new tress are replaced.
Rubberwood is a dense grain wood is strong and will give you many good years of use.
This makes rubberwood 'eco-friendly' in that the wood is harvested from a renewable source. Part of the industry adoption of rubberwood was an international campaign to avoid use of a previously used wood which was harvested from South East Asia's endangered wetland.
